Tommie's 34th!!!

Tommie's 34th birthday is Monday, the 16th and we had a chance to celebrate this milestone with his family. Here is Tommie on the 'birthday saddle' at Texas Roadhouse. He enjoyed a great GF dinner, followed by a ride on the wild side. Happy birthday sweetheart!!!

Welcome

My husband (Tommie) was diagnosed with celiac disease almost five years ago. At that point we were like most newbies, confused and overwhelmed. As time passes we become more educated about the gluten-free lifestyle and with the increasing rate at which individuals are diagnosed with CD, it won't be long before gluten-free is a household word in America.

Over the past five years I have gathered many recipes and helpful hints from the Indianapolis gluten-free community and throughout North America. If you're new to the Indianapolis area or if you're new to eating gluten-free, there are some great outlets for you (all links listed below):

*Gluten-Free Indy website: The website is very helpful and you can also sign up for the GF listserv - you can swap recipes and helpful hints with GF eaters from all over Indianapolis and greater Indianapolis area.

*Whole Foods Carmel - has a monthly gluten-free class where you can learn valuable information, eat some yummy food, and possibly meet some of the people from the listserv. Oh...and Whole Foods has some of the cheapest GF bread around and the largest selection. The Whole Foods in Nora has fewer gatherings but also has a great selection of products. You can check out their events calendar on their website.

*Georgetown Market - also has gluten-free cooking classes from time to time as well as a great gluten-free selection. Plus - their deli can make gluten-free pizzas and gluten-free cakes to order (try their chocolate ganache cake with carmel icing).

*Trader Joes Market - there is one in Castleton and one up by 86th and Michigan (next to the Panera and Five Guys restaurant).

That being said - this blog is here for you. If you need help finding easy recipes, or if you're crazy, I have some hard ones too. If you need help grocery shopping or figuring out where the cheapest selection of GF bread is - I'll help. If you're traveling and need to know about restaurants in that area, let me know. Help Feed the World

Do you carry a thesaurus in your pocket? Do you long to learn multi-syllabic words so that you can impress your friends and family? Probably not, but I'm sure you like to play trivia games and that's where Free Rice comes in. The World Food Programme (United Nations) has created a free online vocabulary game that allows you to donate rice to people all around the world. For each world you get right, 20 grains of rice will be donated through the UN World Food Program to help end hunger!!!
